This period home in the heart of Coburg was ready for a Kitchen update.

Originally, the kitchen was closed off from the neighbouring dining space and blocked off by a solid wall.

Following discussions on what the clients wanted to achieve, it was clear the wall needed to be removed. This would not only improve the flow when entering and exiting the kitchen space but also make it easier to serve meals to the neighbouring dining area.

The idea of creating a larger open space between kitchen and dining/living areas was exciting although daunting for the clients.

The solution was simple. Remove the wall, create an open plan kitchen with a free-standing island bench to increase flow and provide additional storage.

The designer from Richmond set to design a Hampton style kitchen that would match the style of this period home perfectly.

The client organised for their builder to remove the wall first while the rest of the design was organised. The design incorporated the addition of a new free-standing island bench to improve flow from the adjoining living and dining rooms.

The natural light from the period style windows at the rear of the room allowed the light to seep into the Kitchen and, once the wall was removed, the adjoining space. What was once a dark space is now a lighter, brighter one.

Storage and more storageThe Hampton style kitchen with crystal white cabinetry complements the style of this period home.

The addition of YDL Milky Way benchtops gives this kitchen a dramatic feel. The Sirius Rangehood is perfectly hidden underneath the cabinetry to create a streamlined look while giving this classic style a modern edge. The Smeg double ovens tie seamlessly into this kitchen space and also give a modern touch.

This new kitchen at the rear of this lovely period style home in Coburg now has a lovely open plan area. The clients tell us that the new kitchen is now a delight to cook in with. They love the improved flow in their new open space.

Additional storage at the front of the island bench is also one of their many favourite things in this kitchen.
